CITES
Convention of Washington
Many plants and animals belong to endangered species. In 1974 a few
countries have made an international agreement to protect some species.
This we know as CITES (Convention on
International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora).
More than 160 countries have signed this agreement, they promise:
- No animals to take from the wild when it is an endangered species.
You can find those species in Cites list 1.
- Only with an permit some species are allowed to trade with. You can
find those in Cites list 2.
- A country can protect some species not named in the list, see list 3.
- Every 2 year experts come together to discuss and put new species in
the list.
- Countries must registration what is imported and exported on species.
- A country can make an own local list of protected species.
Important for us is:
- not to buy any protected products or to possess them.
- not to use in your flower arrangements materials such as coral,
protected plants, protected shells, painted flowers and so on. Reed more
about this in the book Natural
flower design.
