Environment management

The care for our environment

When we create a flower arrangement we have to reflect on possible negative effects on the environment. We can try to arrange flowers in an environment friendly manner. We can also use materials, which cause less damage to nature. Flower arrangements based on an ecologically sound design emphasize natural beauty. We must do what is practical and what can be realized. Set your own tasks. Our ideal is to work with flowers that are grown ecologically, without the use of chemical poisons and fertilizers. Biologically grown flowers are available under the Dutch logo GEA.  They have the EKO-registration (grown ecologically). It has a legal and protected status. These flowers are grown on a small scale in Holland.

Very important is the MPS-program (Floriculture Environmental Program). In 1996 this was introduced in Holland. Many flowers have the special hallmark: grown in an environment-friendly way. For wholesalers and florists it is important to know that they can sell these flowers under a special label. On strict conditions wholesalers and florists can obtain an MPS certificate. The aim of MPS is to minimize harmful growing methods by:

  • saving energy;
  • using fewer chemical pesticides, more biological control;
  • using less artificial fertilizer;
  • collecting separated garbage;
  • using water efficiently;
  • not painting flowers;
  • using environment friendly wrapping material.

Ecological flower arranging

Ecological flower arranging is a way of paying more attention to the beauty of nature. It will improve our way of thinking and acting. This positive attitude will help to change the attitude of others. Together we must realize a healthier environment. All styles can be practiced, but we should not use:

  • flowers grown in a way damaging to nature;
  • painted flowers;
  • harmful containers;
  • harmful bases, sprays, paint with a harmful solution;
  • coral, shells from exotic countries;
  • all natural materials protected by law.

Pay attention to:

  • waste of living plant material;
  • wrapping;
  • residues in spray cans;
  • left over foam, glue, fix and other accessories;
  • pollution due to transport by car.

We advise you not to use any materials that can damage nature. This attitude could lead to new and alternative techniques for fixing and arranging. It may result in new trends for design and composition, even new styles. Application of recycled materials is admirable.
