A new school year!

Most schools are started their new courses.
In the field of flower art there are many who offer courses, workshops or any kind of training. More of about the same on many places.
The pond schools are fishing in contain less fish every year. For young people there are many possibilities to find a study and profession. Working in a flower shop or garden centre is in my opinion still challenging and very nice. You can develop your own creativity and you are working with nature, colour en the beauty of flowers every day, what do you want more!
There is a good employment thus good opportunities to find a job. We must say that not all shops are paying well and follow the agreed rules. Students tell this at our college frequently, true or not!
Florists must know that young people will not choose to work in the flower business if payment and working conditions are not good. It is a problem we see in many countries. In the long term it is very harm full for the flower business.

We see many adults following a professional floral art course those days. People active and enthusiast to learn how to arrange flowers. They try to find a job or want to have one for them selves. Or they start teaching, offer workshops and so on. Many florists do not want to offer them a job because of their age they say. That is a big mistake of them because those people have a very strong motivation and a good talent for the flower business.

Courses are increased in price last few years. Not too expensive, but all together the cost of a course, books and flowers is something! It is not a problem when the targets of a student can be reached: a diploma, a job, an own company, trainer, free lance designer and so on.

It is essential for any school to create a powerful and flexible learning surrounding. This means a good program, clear targets, a contemporary examination system, good facilities such as class rooms, capable enthusiast teachers and so on. Also a good location and a parking facilities belong to this. In many school there is a budget cut on all of this. The quality of a course is under pressure because of this and it cause a decrease of the results.
Further on we see strong competition and to many of the same courses in the same place. Schools often cannot have a good economic result because of this. And there is a strong competition of non official courses and workshops. Often offered for a very low price, too low to be able to be profitable. Even they offer flowers included. You cannot believe this. It makes it very difficult for a good quality course on professional schools to find students for the courses.

Any way it will be a challenging new school year, with many new chances. New students who will take the challenge to discover and develop their own creative talents in flower art or other green profession.
