WAFA

Have you been to the World show of WAFA in Glasgow. In June the 7the World show was held and became a great success. Flower arrangers from around the world (more than 30 countries) came together to compete, to go to flower demonstrations and lectures. About 800 arrangement were to seen in many different classes for competition. Some had a very high level of beauty.
Not all arrangements maybe were even exiting, but it was a perfect show with a great diversity in style and type of arrangements. A complement to the WAFA organisation.
And the International contact, meeting people of course is of great value. Exchange of ideas and techniques and knowledge. Meeting people from many countries, is an important aspect of this WAFA happening.

A pitty is that many flower arrangers think it is necessary (also in WAFA competition) to use protected materials such as coral in their arrangements. Also the use of painted flowers and other not necesary use of materials I have seen. A pitty because there are so many beautiful natural materials available.
Flower arrangers must learn it is not necessary for their arrangements to use protected materials and materials what can damage nature

A good sense and feeling for our environment and protection of nature is very important. Flower arrangers must give an good example to others in this matter. Organisations must forbid the use of protected materials and painted flowers.

I did a big demonstration for WAFA. 2500 people in the audience. The title was Dutch flower art, a creative challenge. I did a variation of 14 totally different arrangements. My team did a wonderful job and assist me to do the show what took 2 hours time. The biggest was nearly 3 meter high. I was able to work with very nice Dutch products  such as Anthurium, Chrysanthemum, Philodendronblad, Gerbera, Rosa and Alstroemeria, provided by:

Sharing knowledge was always one of my challenges and motivations. That is also why I write flower art books and teach this profession. In Glasgow my new book Natural flower design was presented. The feeling for it was very positive. "The message of the book is about environmentally friendly flower art. I hope many will think in the same positive way about it.
