Introduction

Meat eating plants are plants who are able to catch insect by them self and to verteren. they have special type of leaves and colours. The plant is interesting because of the meat eating system they have, but also the flowers by some species are beautiful as example by Sarracenia.

Use

Some species can be used as indoor potted plants in the house. Some species best can kept in a terrarium or other moisture surrounding. 
A few species can be kept outside in the Dutch climate such as Dionaea and Sarracenia. They need some protection to wind and frost.

The flower of some species as example of Sarracenia is for sale as cut flower. It is very special in flower art.

Vleesetende planten kunnen niet tegen een droge lucht. Daarom moeten ze in een vochtige omgeving staan. Dat kunt u in huis bereiken door ze op een schotel te plaatsen die in een tweede schotel staat waar een laagje water in staat. We noemen dit de eiland methode. De potgrond mag niet uitdrogen dus u moet dagelijks wat water geven. Water geven op de schotel heeft de voorkeur. Indien goed vochtig mag de plant ook wat zon hebben. Schoon regenwater is het beste omdat deze planten geen liefhebbers zijn van kalk. U hoeft geen plantenvoeding te geven. Wat u wel kunt doen is als er weinig insecten zoals vliegen in huis zijn, deze zelf vangen en aan de plant voeren.
Er zijn ook soorten zoals de Dionaea muscipula  of Venus vliegenval die in de winter een koele rustperiode wenst. Tijdens de rustperiode de aarde iets vochtig houden. In het voorjaar kunnen ze terug naar de kamer.
