Introduction

In daily life we some times are in contact with plants who are more or less poisoning. This is not direct a problem and if you have some knowledge of the plants you do not have to fear them. Serious poisoning are rare. If you eat poisoning plants we have to warn you. Some looks very attractive but are dangerous. Children have more problems with the poison as adults. Also animals can be killed by poisoning plants. Well known is Taxus who can even kill a horse.

   Gloriosa

Plants are stated as poisoning if a small amount of it  can poison a person. Animals can eat some plants who are for humans poisoning. Some poisoning plants are used as medicine.

Poison in plants are often:

  • Alkaloïden: example coffeïne, morfine, nicotine.
  • Glycosiden: we find this in Digitalis.

What to do by poisoning

  • Take direct contact with a doctor.
  • Collect information about the plant such as the name.
  • Bring a part of the plant with you to the doctor.
  • Notice the phenomena by the patient.

What to do if a doctor not is available.

  • Put the patient stable on the side.
  • Let drink a few glasses of water if possible.
  • Try to let vomit the patient. 
  • Give Norit to the patient.
