Introduction

Information is based on a moderate climate such as in Holland.
Roses belong to the most loved plants. There are many songs about the rose. Roses belong to the deciduous shrubs. They can flower long and rich when you give them a good care. Some species have also a nice scent. Roses can be divided in different groups groups:

  1. large flowering roses, thee hybrids
  2. Polyantha hybrids and floribunda roses
  3. Lambertiana roses
  4. Botanical roses
  5. Climber roses

The rose hip is a pseudocarp and for flower art very nice to use. There are round shapes, pear shapes or bottle shapes.

Use

Because there are many rose species. Even to much to discuss them all. The use of the roses is very different. We give you here some general information and tips.

Group 1
These large-flowering busy rose give not so many flowers, but because the are very big and often have a nice scent they look rich flowering. You can use them planting in a section or a bed.

Group 2
The Polyantha roses are the remontants, spray roses. There are simple, half filled and filled flowers. Use for section-, and flower beds in large gardens or a park.

Group 3
Busy form species to use as a flower shrub.

Group 4
These wild botanical rose have many species and are available in different sizes. Use for large beds, hedges or as in front of higher shrubs. Some species have nice hips.

Group 5
Climber roses, can grow up high if you give them some help and support. They are good in use for a pergola or a wall. These species must guided or grow over a frame or supporting construction.

For the use in flower art you can cut of roses without a problem. Best time to do this is early in the morning. Punt them after cutting in water within Chrysal.

Care

Roses can grow and flower in many places. They expect a sunny place in the garden. They ask for a good condition to the soil: not too sour, not to wet and not to dry. Eelworms, can sometimes cause   soil tiredness  and en de emphasize grow. Two bed span deep (60 cm) is best and we advise to use old cow manure in the plant hole (as alternative you can use compost or dried cow mature). The roots may not stand direct in de mature. The rose must be planted with wet roots. Keep them in their natural growing position. In winter time it often is useful to fill up around the stem with earth. Pruning is important and will be done after winter time. Dead branches will be pruned and also the wild stems. The thick branches can be cut of till about 10 cm, just above a outside eye. Climbers may not be pruned too often. You must cut away the dead branches. After the flowering period you  also can prune the old stems.
